Lähitaistelu (Close Combat) Part 5 - Otteet ja Kaadot (Clasps and Overturnings) - Come-Alongs & Takedowns
Sometimes I wish I had a time machine and could go back and ask people why they did certain things - this section is a perfect example. Typically, what used to be called 'come-alongs', essentially holds for moving someone, are in this era a bit of a mystery - I always wonder why out of all the available options these sorts of ones are typically chosen. Sure, some of them appear in Fairbairn's work, but they are typically not tremendously good options. The relevance of the takedowns shown in this section is also a bit of a puzzle.
Some thoughts I do have on these is with regards to context:
If for instance, you are working with a group, it may make some sense for someone to throw themselves at a singular person that is to be captured, and simply drag them down, and everyone else can then run in and 'stacks-on'.
As far as the 'come-alongs' go, they may be fine for someone who has capitulated, especially if you have assistance, rather than someone who is still putting up a fight.
These points make some sense if you consider a policing brief.
